New dates for End of Year Retreat: 29th, 30th & 31st Dec 2025

An average adult is said to make 35,000 decisions per day. Modern living swirls us into constant planning, wanting, and doing; we inevitably feel overwhelmed, fatigued, disconnected, or unwell. Tea as Daily Retreat is a practice of self-love, creating boundaries from the ceaseless demands of the mind and finding restoration through stillness and simplicity.

Unlike most tea meditations, Tea as Daily Retreat does not treat meditation as a means to acquire stillness, nor does it feed into the spiritually materialistic idea that meditation will give us something. Instead, it is an act of deduction - a gradual process of slowing down, shedding layers of noise, and returning to simplicity. Through the mindful tea ritual, we approach meditation in its dynamic form: getting used to the mind, observing its movement, and becoming intimately aware of its ever-changing nature. Ultimately, such intimacy with our mind enables us to transcend any challenges in life into ease or delight. Thus, one lives fully.

The 35-minute practice invites you to solitude daily, or as often as possible, where tea becomes an intimate vessel for presence, a quiet guide in learning to release, let go, and, ultimately, find rest. Generally, it will be guided as the following:

  • Setting Intention & Aspiration (2 min)
  • First Meditation & First Brew of Tea (10 min)
  • Second Meditation & Second Brew of Tea (10 min)
  • Third Meditation & Third Brew Of Tea (10 min)
  • Dedicating Merit (3 min)

End of Year Retreat:

29th, 30th & 31st Dec 2025 6 pm GMT

Please note that this is a virtual event. Upon order confirmation, you will receive the Zoom link and a calendar invite. Given the nature of the practice, which addresses the here and now, there will not be a recording. We invite you to join us live at a time that suits you.

*If you are participating in our tea facilitator training, you must complete 100 hours of practice before proceeding to the Mentor level.

    Cultural Significance

This practice is based on the Buddha’s teachings on The Four Noble Truths, Shamatha meditation (The Development of Peace) and the Hinayana Path, “the Lesser Vehicle”, the Disciplined or Narrow Path (as the foundation training of the mind), facilitated by Rui, following the guidance and teachings of Do Tulku Rinpoche and Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche and of Rimé (non-sectarian) lineage of Tibetan Buddhism.
