刺梨 Prickly Pear is a thorny fruit that grows wild across the southwest of China from the shrub Hirtula Roses. Over centuries, it’s been foraged and consumed as a fruit, medicinal alcohol 藥酒, and tea by the indigenous tribes in Guizhou.
Locally known as 山果王 The Fruit King of the Mountain, its vitamin C content is the highest among all plants, nearly 3 times that of jujube and 30 times that of kiwi. It is also rich in minerals such as Zinc and Selenium, which help inhibit the aging of blood vessels and detoxify our body.
Prickly Pear has a relatively cool nature 冷性 and has been traditionally applied as plant-based medicine for treating heat-related symptoms, indigestion, and cough.
